Well we all survived the epic race that is Strathpuffer ! With Strathpeffer receiving heavy snowfall and sub zero temperatures leading up to the race we where not even sure if we would even be able to get to the race never mind take part. Luckily for us though the organisers pulled out all the stops and cleared the majority of the course of snow and ice. What with myself and Sean entering as a pair and Jonny and John both insanely entering as Solo's meant that the start of the race we would have 3 of us out on the course at once. Sean managed to draw the short straw meaning he was the one to start the race, leaving me at the start of the first climb holding the 3 bikes. Soon as the race started the elite racers starting sprinting past and powering up the long forest road climb out of the camp site. Couple of minutes past and Sean and Jonny arrived casually walking over, took there bikes and disappeared up the hill leaving me holding the last bike belonging to John who I was starting to think had got lost …. another minute passes and most of the crowd at this point had disappeared back to the comfort of there caravans and tents when John appears … cigar in mouth !

The Strathpuffer race has been given the go ahead!! So this weekend Team Penguin are heading up to North Scotland taking part in what is going to be one of the most challenging and unique endurance races held in the UK (in my opinion the best!). Can't quiet believe how quickly the race has come round, having kept thinking "got ages yet", but that always happens with Team Penguin as we are no pro's, just in for the challenge and have a good time. Hopefully have another update before we leave and during the event will post pics via twitter (< link can be found on the menu tabs) if Stu's technology is working that is............ |

Last ride/walk before the race |

Today we (Sean & Stu) headed back to Lee Quarry to get one last ride in before the race on Saturday. We shot up the fire road to the start of the quarry with no bother as it was all compact snow and no ice. But once we got to the start the snow was stupidly deep, so we pushed on hoping it would be better further on the track. But no, it was one long push round with snow up to our knees in places! Might sound like a rubbish ride, but turned out to be a good laugh, some parts we could ride, but was a rare. It was a good test for our kits tho and the scenary was amazing. After the ride/push and messing with icicles, we headed back down and got the stove on for a nice hot brew and a sandwhich. Overall a good day out, this week is going to be taken up with work for four days and preparing bikes, kit and food inbetween so we are ready to roll come Friday. |
